Ill try to go from latest to newest news. So here goes:par

I finished harvesting butternut squash. I love it. We have tried different ways of cooking it. I love it like sweet potatoes just bake and sprinkle butter and sugar on it. Dallas and David prefer it fried, Dakota doesnt prefer it at all. Hes so finincky.PhotobucketPhotobucketpar
par
I canned some and then I froze some. I have made spaghetti sauce and salsa, which Dakota was very proud of since we were out. He loves my salsa.Photobucketpar
par
Ive got enough to make another batch of salsa, and if I havent burnt them up with too much fertilizer I might get some more tomatoes before frost. It got really hot and no rain so I fertilized and watered for a few days.par
par
Then I worked on green beans.PhotobucketPhotobucket I got out my grandmothers pressure cooker and it took me back to my childhood. I can remember hearing that “chattering” bobbler for yrs. on that stove. It brought tears to my eyes.par
par
Im done with okra, we have PLENTY!!!!!! The only thing left is to dig potatoes and see if I can find my carrots under all the weeds. I will make a spot for some cold stuff, if I feel like it. I think Im about gardened out. I might get one more picking of green beans if Im lucky.par
par
The boys still have to cut down their sunflower heads and let them dry, then well see how we want to season them.par

I have great news. Susie’s pups joined the military. A guy from the military bought them to train them to be bomb seekers. Boy, they have got an important job to do. I am so proud and so is David. He was kind of sad the day he had to say goodbye to 6 of them. The other one was bought by a man whose father was a field trial judge for 23 yrs. She will be duck trained too. She will have a great pedigree. This is the day they left. David has turned into such a softie. Bless his heart.PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket Watching him round all these fiesty pups up was a hoot. Now, we are working with Missy. Her name is 4D’s Little Miss Trouble and believe me shes living up to her name. We are teaching her basic commands right now. She is doing great. For Davids birthday I got him Duck Retrieving Instructional Videos from a trainer that has been successful for over 30 yrs. We love his methods and they are working great. Here he is taking Susie through a refresher course.PhotobucketPhotobucket Dakota has also watched the videos so they are on the same page and they dont confuse her. He has learned how to work with them.Photobucket We have some very smart girls.par

The Farm:par
par
Well my girls are doing great, Cocoa is being a ham as usual:Photobucket I started weaning Joe Joes baby, and had the udder support on her and she did not like it. It rubbed a very bad sore on the inside of her left leg and it got infected and her milk production went caput. So I take it back off and shes fine.Photobucket I can also tell the support is too big on her. She is smaller so I will have to order her a small for next yr. So far all my girls have gone dry because of the extreme heat and I waited too long to wean babies. Next yr. babies will be weaned around 5 or 6 wks of age. The longer you let a baby nurse, the more damage it does to the udder. My stupid mistake.par
par
Next, I have sad news. I have lost two more babies. Again, due to my stupidity. The day we harvested corn, we threw the shucks over the fence and of course my girls loved them. Well I killed two of my babies with kindness. They got scours really bad and never go over them. One was one of Joe Joes babies, Tilly, and the other was my girl Patience, which was one of Cocoas babies that it took me 3 yrs to get. I was so heart broken and I cried for two or three days. What was so hard was, when I was trying to bury her, Miracle her sister kept trying to get in the whole with her, and Cocoa was standing in the way talking to her. This was ripping my heart out, I had to lock them in the barn til I was done. I miss her so much. I have learned alot more this yr. that I will never make the mistake of doing again. David said he would just rather me not have any animals on this farm, as to see me down and depressed when something happens. He does not like to see me hurt. It is just part of farm life I tell him. I have made more changes in my management practices. I am getting ready for breeding season this yr and getting ready to bring my buck Bucky, home. Next yr will be alot different. I am still bound and determined to learn Artificial Insemination to broaden my genetics. Tails have started wagging and now I can start tracking heat cycles to time breedings. Get ready Darlene!!!!!par

We have battled a few stomach virus’s since school started. Dallas was the first. Where were all these germs when school was out? One night Dallas was running a high fever and David had to come pick him up at church. The next two days he was out of school. His fever shot up to 104 deg. and David rushed him to the clinic. I got all his assignments from his teachers and I got to school him again between naps and fevers. He did really good. Dakota even helped him with some of his work. Such a good brother.Photobucket Next it was Dakotas turn to get sick. The school called one Friday and said he was running fever we had to come pick him up. His turned out to be allergy and sinus’.Photobucket Poor Baby. He was sick over the weekend and didnt have much fun. He returned to school on Mon.par

I have started reading some books to them and I am so excited, I have always wanted to read these books and now I have the whole set. It is the Little House series that Laura Ingalls Wilder wrote. I started reading Little House in the Big Woods when I was younger, but just couldnt get into it. Now, we are on book two. Farm Boy, where Almanzo is a boy. I love these books and so do they, they beg me to read more than one chapter a night.Photobucket One of these days Im going to buy the complete seasons of Little House on the Prairie, cause we love watching them too. I also didnt know her daughter Rose wrote some books too, Im going to get them too.par
par
We have had the pleasure of watching deer out of Dakotas bedroom window. I am so ready for deer season, got my license and my camo and everything ready.PhotobucketPhotobucket Dakota is even teaching Dallas how to clean his guns. Again, sweet brother.Photobucketpar

Sports:par

Football season has started for both boys. Dallas is playing pee wee football this year. This is his first year and he got on the same team that big brother played on, GO BIG ORANGE!! His coach remembers Dakota being on his team, so he wanted to make sure he got Dallas this year. He looks so cute in his uniform. Photobucketpar
par
Dallas is under the helmet. We went and bought him everything he needed. Even a little cup. Shhhh, dont let him know Im telling you this. LOL He is not use to wearing one, but he will. All he wants to do is tackle somebody, literally. lol.PhotobucketPhotobucket He looks so much like Dakota especially when hes wearing his uniform, its like watching big brother all over again. Ill have to get a pic of him in uniform, I forgot to at the Jamboree.PhotobucketPhotobucketpar
par
It gets hard sometimes because Dakota and one of his friends plays ball together and are in the same grade, his little brother is in the same class with Dallas and he plays for Big Orange team too, so between me and their mom we take turns going to watch the big boys game and then the next time well take the little ones to practice. This way we can both watch each child of ours play. Dallas’ games is on Tuesday nights, Dakotas is on Thurs. but the little ones have practice on Thurs, so this is when we have to rotate. Tues, we can all go to the games. Now, big brothers (Austin and Dakota) sit in the stands and watch so they can “correct” things in the truck on the way home. LOLpar

Dakotas football started a few weeks ago with the middle school Jamboree and we won our game. We have an awesome team this year.par

PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket Dakota is number 17. He looks so handsome. My young man is growing up. Yes, he is that tall. Even though we won this game, it ended on a sad note. At the end of the game it was announced that our Assistant Principal passed away suddenly at his home of a heart attack just a few hrs after school was dismissed and he got home. They knew they could not tell this before the game or these boys could not have played the game. When the announcement was made and it sank into their minds, they all broke down. Cheerleaders, boys, teachers, parents and all who attended. We were shocked. “We just saw him a few hrs ago Momma.” is all some of these boys could say. They were heart broken. I did not know this man had such an impact on Dakota. He did not hardly go to sleep that night. No one wanted to go to school the next day. It was a down day, because the atmosphere was so depressing. Dallas did not really know him that well since he just went to school this yr. That Sunday after church was the viewing at the funeral home and I asked Dakota if he wanted to go and he said yes. So we got to the funeral home and we were waiting our turn to speak to his wife, who is the Art teacher at school. Dallas just reached out to hug her, he likes her. Dakota hugged her and then Dakota didnt want to pass by the casket. But I told him it was respectful to. We got up there and Dakota said it did not look like him because they did not have his glasses on him. We left the funeral home and went home to Davids moms for a cookout.par
par
The Saturday before Labor Day we went Dove hunting. Yea!!!!! Dakota started counting down the days 29 days ago, I did not think it was ever going to get here, thanks to him. We had a blast. We got up at the crack of dawn that morning and got in positions. Needless to say we didnt see a whole lot. So about lunch we packed up came home, ate and we decided to go get a skeet thrower and some clay discs and practice.PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket Now, I have bragging rights. We made an elimination competition. We had two groups, David, Todd, and Dallas (who Daddy helped) was on the first team, Me, Dakota and Jacob was on the second team. I put out Dakota and Jacob and Todd put out David and Dallas. So Todd and I had to face off, guess who won? YOU GUESSED IT______I DID!!!!!!! WHOSE YOUR MOMMA NOW BUDDY? Every body was teasing Dakota that he got beat by a girl and David went to work bragging on me that I beat Todd. Now, I havent competed against David yet, that will come this weekend. Wish me luck!!!!! We did go back that evening and only got 6. We put them in the freezer to hopefully go with somemore this weekend. Sorry Cousin Amberly, but dove breast wrapped in bacon is really good and healthy too. And by the way we still ride like this in the south, when we dont get caught:Photobucketpar

The nest game was homecoming. Dakota escorted our preachers daughter who is a 7th grade cheerleader. They are so adorable. First, if youll notice the ribbon on the field. It is a ribbon to remember the Assistant Principal. Dakota and 5 other football boys painted this on the field before Homecoming Court Presentation:Photobucket Enjoy the rest of the pics from the presentation. One of the football boys sang the National Anthem and was awesome.PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket This is a good looking group of kids. They are all friends. We did win our ball game. 42-8 I think. We are undefeated so far. Here is our handsome boys again:PhotobucketPhotobucket Afterwards we had 5th quarter at our church and everyone came. We had a great time even Dallas getting kisses from the cheerleaders and the Homecoming Queen!!!!!par

As far as school goes, Dakota is doing good except in a few areas. In math he is struggling with Fractions in Algebra and in Literature he is struggling with Comprehension. Both teachers are working with him and he is doing some extra activities which takes his PE time and he doesnt like it very well. He knows it is only for his own good, but he wants his PE time too. lol He has really good teachers. When a child is struggling, they get them some help which is what I love. Our school is all about the kids getting the best out of their education. Dakota is making good grades except in Science, but he doesnt seem to need my help, and he knows Im here when he needs me, and if its not anything he is struggling with, he knows hes got to pull it up. They just have football on the brain at the moment and thats all. I do have some dvd’s here on Math that I will have to pull out and help him too. He want like it, but it will be for his own good.par

Dallas is doing great, he is making good grades and is hanging in there. The only thing he doesnt like about school is hes not use to being in classes all day long. When he was here with me, we could be done by lunch and hes not use to this. He has adjusted well though. He says his favorite classes is PE and Lunch. lolHe has great teachers also, I like them all. They are wonderful. They dont send books home with 3rd graders because they are afraid they will loose them or not bring them back the next day. They do most of their work in class and they only send home a spelling list and vocabulary words with their definitions for them to do at home. Dallas is making good grades also. We have opted to get him some help with speech. He still has trouble with R’s and L’s. They will take just 30 minutes two or three times a week and do exercises and games. I tried every thing I could think of when he was at home to help him with this, but I was out of ideas, maybe this will help.par

So pretty much my schedule ispar
par
Monday school for Dallas until 3, I come get him and we go to the gym or somewhere and do his homework while Dakota stays til 5 for football practice. Then we leave and go to Selmer from 6-8 for Dallas football practice. We get home, eat, take showers read and fall into bed.par
par
Tuesday: School til 3 for Dallas, until 5 for Dakota, then Dallas has his games on Tues. nights they alternate. One week they play the first game at 6 the next week they play at 8pm. We come home take showers, eat, read and fall into bed.par
par
Wednesday: School til 5pm for both boys. Dakota stays for practice while Dallas goes into after school program. I come to the school at 5 with church bus to pick them up. We go to the church, eat, go to class and go home, take shower, read and fall into bed.par
par
Thurs: School til 3 for Dallas, then football practice from 6-8. School for Dakota til 3 then football prac or stay after for football game. This is when me and Robin rotate so we can see both boys games. We get home, eat, take showers, maybe read, and fall into bed. By this night everyone is getting wore out.par
par
Friday: School til 3 for both, we come home and do what ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! David is off on weekends and it is family time for us. David gets to come to as many games as he can. This is another reason why I video tape, so we can go back and watch them and he doesnt miss any.par
par
During school hours I am doing chores, working in the garden, canning, cleaning house, doing laundry, I try to cook supper in the mornings so it is ready when we do get home, or Im doing what ever needs to be done. That is why I have not been on the computer in a WHILE!!!!!!! I do not have time.par
par
Dallas has finally go his retainer (looks more like a bracket) in his mouth to straighten some teeth on the side. Bless his heart, he is talking funny now and it has gagged him a few times. But its only because he is not use to it yet. He will get use to it. I have a little key I have to tighten it with every night. It is pretty cool. It will hurt a few days until he gets use to it. The school nurse knows he has got some Tylenol there in case he needs some while at school. This will be a series of visits because he will have to get a wire for one of his front teeth. But when its all done, he will be fine and his teeth will look good. Here he is at the dentistPhotobucket Bless his heart he was so good. Now Im exhausted and Ive got to get supper on the table. Dakota will be home soon, he went home with a friend after school cause we didnt know how long we were going to be at the dentist. Daddy will be home in a little while from AL. It is family time and rest time. Tomorrow were going dove hunting again.par

About 4dfarms

I am a wife to an amazingly dedicated, devoted, and loyal husband whom God sent to me. I am a mother to two wonderful boys to whom I'd give my life for. Around here we homeschool, farm, garden, hunt, fish and anything else we want to do. Although I do have Rheumatoid Arthritis. Sometimes its hard for me to keep up. If it was not for my husband and two boys, I could not do some of what I do. They really do help me alot. We work together as a team in my home. We try our best to train up our children in the fear and admonition of the Lord. Yea, they slip sometimes and correction has to be made. Thats life. I want so badly to be just like the Proverbs 31 woman. My grandmother did an awesome job of it and Id like to fill her shoes.
